At, the I?oral Commission of Inquiry into alleged corruption in commotion Avith the "Wheat, Acquisition Aft, evidence given by a. number of farmers and others in the Crmln.nion district, showed that ft deputation interviewed the meniher for tlio district and Ministers about tho Hill. Subsequently a.n agent was appointed to canvass the districts with tlio object of obtaining subscriptions with a view to taking steps to securing tlio cancellation of wheat contracts. Witnesses Rare varying versions of bow tlio money wa.s expended. Some said they bad been told that it was to go to Labour Caucus,, others that it went to pay a, solicitor for putting the subscribers' ease before Ministers. One witness alleged that he had bfxen told that £3OO was paid to the Caucus. Tlio hearing is unfinished.
