Mr S. M'.l.aughlan, of Elizabeth Street, who has boon on a visit to the Old Country, is expected' to arrive in Wellington on Wednesday by the Reniuora.

Mr J. A. M'CuHough is at present on a, cycling tour in the North Canterbury district, and will be absent about a week.

Councillor and Mrs White are spending the Christmas holidays at Hastings, and will be absent another week.

A trial of a road grader was given on Wednesday on Clarence Road by a city firm; in the presence of the Mayor and several Councillors. I believe the trial proved a great success.

Mr Alley, master of the local school, left last week for Otago Central, and will be absent for a few weeks.

Councillor Waddell and family have been residing at New Brighton for a month, and will return home on Monday.

The Lower Riecarton unit of the Citizens* Defence Corps held their weekly parade on Wednesday ev'ening, when there was a muster of seventy. The corps marched to the College grounds, and were exercised in rifle drill.
