NEW BRIGHTON GALA.

POSTPONED OWING TO RAIN. WILL BE HELD MX! SATURDAY. The New Brighton Gala, which was to have been held to-day, had to be postponed owing to the rain. The Gala. Committee held a meeting at eleven o'clock and decided to postpone the gathering until next Saturday. January 16. Although the tides will not be so satisfactory next Saturday, the whole of the programme will be carried out, and if it is favoured with fine weather the Gala should be a success. The committee had .made very complete arrangements for this year's Gala, and as the proceeds were to be devoted to the Belgian Fund, it was anticipated that a much larger number of' visitors than usual would be present. The assistance of the Commercial Travellers' Association had been obtained for the torchlight procession, and a number of innovations bad also been included on tho programme. New Brighton was gaily decorated for the occasion, and some hundreds of flags were hanging along tho front of the pier and in the main street, but these had a very dejected appearance this .morning as they hung limply in the rain. A few tents which had been intended for sido shows were also scattered about tho beach, the silent evidences of the preparations made,
