S. ARMY PRISON GATE HOME.

AN APPEAL. TO TUK EDITOR. Sir,---As \v»:< approach the Christmas season I would once more draw attention to this institution, it has ever been our custom to'provide dinner and tea on Christmas Day for all comers. Wo have, been enabled fo do this through the generous response of our appeal from business linns, also from ladies and gentlemen of Christehurch and district, who believe in the 'good work done by the social wing, of the Salvation Army. Our appeal, this year is more urgentthrough tho increased cost of provisions and -nearly overy thing we use, and also on- account ot our income being considerably rt'dncfal. As justifying the inclusion of this home' among the deserving charitable institutions ot Canterbury allow me to point out that we havo been engaged for many years past in work among discharged prisoners and the destitute of all classes. Number of men dealt with this vear are as follows No. 111 tho home at beginning of year . . . 31 Admitted during the year- . . 200 Total . . 327 Meals supplied . . . , 35.P96 Beds .supplied , ... . 12.9:22 Hundreds of garments have been distributed to men, women and .children, also food supplied. . Thanking our friends for all their kind assistance in tho past and believing that they will again nobly respond to our appeal, we wish you all the compliments of the coming season.—l am, yours to help the poor and needv. R. BARNES. Staff-Captain, Manager.
