The ofliciiil reporter pays it tribute
to the courage of the Siberians who
detrained in a suburb of Warsaw, and
immediately engaged in the great
battle. They inflicted terrible losses
with the bayonet, and ca-ptuied many
prisoners
Tlie reporter adds: "The Caucasians
showed extraordinary courage near Ko-
zisnid. They' fought for eight days in a deep bog on tlje left bank of the
Vistula, all the time exposed to heavy
artillery fire. They ropulsed all at-
ta,c;ks, though the Germans had all ad-
vantage in the matter of the ground
Despite' heavy losses, the Caucasians
did not yield a yard,-frequently sav<jd tho most desperate situations:, onabl-
ing other troops to be free for action."
Referring to the great; battle south of Przemysl, the reporter says that the Atistnnns.- are lighting in confusion, and have sustained enormous losses. STRICKEN BY PLAGUES. ROME, October 22. Advices from Austria give news of an alarming spread of cholera, smallpox, typhoid, plague and lockjaw. An Austrian communique admits 100 cases of cholera, and. adds that typhoid and. smallpox have broken out at Trieste .among the wounded from Galicia.
