.—*. TODAY'S SUGCESIFUL FIXTURE. (Special to the "Star.") LEESTON, Tliis Day. The Canterbury spring show season was opened to-day, when the, Ellesmero Agricultural and Pastoral Association, established forty-four yo.aj'.s ago, held, its annual exhibition at the Association's grounds at Leeston. The weather conditions were fairly favourable, although/ a, nor'-wester mado things rather unpleasant, but the trees 'by which the grounds are surrounded served to break the wind to a considerable extent. Even comparatively early in the day the attendance was" fairly large, and in the afternoon there were large accessions, all the surrounding districts being .represented by largo contingents, while a considerably number journeyed from the city and from further afield. The cntrias showed a decline com-' pared with last year, the total being 7of>. compared with 847 last year. 826 in 1912, 928 in 3911. 868 in 1910 and 909 in 1909.

The management was satisfactory, aud the judging was completed 'fairly early.

Mr J. N- Boag secured the championship in Border Leicesters, other principal prizetakers being Messrs J. Nixon, W. 0. Rennie, J. S. Boag and R. W. Lochhead. Mr I. Andrew captured tbn championship in' English Leicesters and he and Mr R: H. Rhodes divided 'first honours. In Southdowus, Messrs J. Brooks and T. W- Brooks were the leading prizetakers,,-and in Shropshires Mr I. Andrew was the sole exhibitor. Messrs M'Clelland Bros. (Kimberley) and J. Brooks were successful, in fat sheep, and Messrs- W. 0. Rennie, J. Stapleton, J. Moorhead and J.,and A. Anderson in fat lambs. In Shorthorn cattle Messrs A. Chamberlain and W. B. Cunningham were successful in bulls-
