FIGHT IN BELGIUM.
WARSHIPS SHELL GERMANS. {Received October 22, 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 21. Tho Mas haw made excellent progress in Belgium. British naval guns, finding the range marvellously, shelled the enemy along the line of a dyke, the German artillery being forced to retire. rhe Allies then made a general advance, and many Germans were taken prisoner, while & large number of Belgian and French prisoners were released. German officers are dejected and confess that the armies in France and Belgium are retreating. Seventeen trainloada of German wounded have reached Bruges. British warships off the coast near Ostend raked the villages to the southward of Middelkerke and dropped heavy shells in the rear of the Gerzuans- ' A detachment with machine gtms then advanced, and the Germans, caaght between two fire*, wavered and yielded, The Allies' infantry pressed forward and the cannonading from the sea increased. Our infantry fire was redoubled, and tho whole German line resting on the 44A retreated. The Germans removed their guns.towards Ostend, their wounded traversing Bruges to Ghent and Brussels. Ji is reported that while the British lihips were bombarding the Germans on the Belgian coast) they were attacked $y German submarines. Destroyer!' went to their assistance and drove off the submarines with losa. It is reported that the Germans are fortifying Ostend on the sea and on the south sides. Blankenberg (Belgiutti), and three exploded, two children being killed. ■ The German losses at Nienporb were about fivw thousand. Ostead is full of wounded. Reinforeeniente totalling sixty thousand, with many batteries, hare arrived at Ghent. The Germans when retreating had a, battery annihilated.
