[From: Qdk Cortiksponpent.] LONDON, August 28. The War Oflico announced that Colonel R. 11. Uavies, C-8., of tlio Now Zealand Staff Corps, temporarily gazetted brigadier-general, is now appointed a brigade commander. Mr WJtl. Gibb, of tlio N.Z. Defence Forces, is to bo a second lieutenant in tlio third battalion lloya] Highlanders.
Three members of the New Zealand Defence Force have been given commissions in the Reserve of the Iloval London Militia (7th lloyal Fusiliers).
Major G. S. Richardson, of Wellington, has been appointed to Mr Winston Churchill's new Naval Brigade, and is shortly to be despatched to tho Continent.
. Mr and Mrs J. W. Wallace, of Wellington, arrived at Liverpool by tho on July 20, after a pleasant run across through Canada and tho States. They proposed doing various trips, including- Germany and Switzerland, but, of course, these aro all upset by the war-
On Tuesday of last week a bathing fatality occurred at Gunwalloe, Mullion, Cornwall, tho victim being Mr William Davis Canning, aged forty-five, husband of Clara Louise Canning, of Tliornbury, Gloucestershire, and son of the lato Charles Canning, or Nelson, New Zealand, and Collingbourne Ducis, Wilts.
Mr and Mrs A. V. Hunt, of Auckland, and Miss Hunt, have had to modify their original plans of a tour through Europe. They made short stays on their way over at Lake Louise, and from there visited points of _ interest on the Rocky Mountains, Winnipeg, Chicago, Toronto, Buffalo and New York. Immediately on arrival in England they went down to Devonshire to be present at a reunion of the Hunt' family, who have been identified with that county for many generations, a former member of the family. having been Mayor of Exeter about the year 1513.
Mr J. Dilworth Mossnian, of Auckland, who arrived recently, is one of the New Zealanders who has offered his services for the war, and if these are accepted the plans of his trip will be materially upset. He had interded staying for six months or so, visiting Ireland and Scotland, and after a couple of months' tour on the Continent returning to New Zealand via Suez.
