CITY WATER SUPPLY.
PROVISION FOB NEXT SUMMER, PLANT TO BE ELECTRIFIED. The City Council decided last night to electrify and extend its pumping plant, in accordance with a recommendation by tho engineer. The work cannot be taken in hand at once, and probably ivill not bo completed before next summer. The engineer's report stated that at least 2.500,000 gallons per" day would be required ' in the coming summer and at least 3,000,000 gallons next summer. The capacity of the gas-driven plant was 4,104,000 gallons, and the electrically-driven pumps 1,080.000 gallons. This was a capacity for 2,500,000, with an equivalent standby plant, and it would bo adequate foi present needs, but he recommends 1 that, two extra unite should ba provided, each capable of throwing 2,400.000 ga-llo'is a day. He recommended that the Worfchington turbines should be replaced by a new pump and motor. The motors on the Sydenham station should be replaced by a motor to take Lake Coleridge current.
