ANOTHER WRECK.

Tho following tolegram was received by the Chief Postmaster, Wellington, this evening from the postmaster at Karamea:— "The Mangapapa, which went ashore on tho North Spit, had to bo hurriedly abandoned at high water, 2 p.m. Hor engineroom is flooded. The crew are safe. Tho vessel is likely to becomo a total wreck." (The Mangapapa is a wooden steamer of 1(54 tons, owned by tho Karamea Steamship Company, and registered at. Wellington. Sho was built at Sydney in 1902. She has been engaged for some years in the trade between Wellington and Karamea, on tho west coast of Nelson.) ENGINE ROOM nOODED. IP [Per Prkss Association.] WESTPORT, Actober 13. The Mangapapa left the Karamea wharf on Thursday, timber-lader for Westport. She stranded on the -outh spit, but got safely back to the wharf and left again. On Saturday she again stranded on tho north spit, but was in a safe place till Sunday, when a big sea came down, carrying away the lines. Tho steamer was driven into the breakers yesterday, and the holds and the engine-room flooded. The crew were compellod to leave the shin abandoning everything for the time being. It is feared that tho steamer may become a total wreck. The crew got their mails and personal effects ashore at low water. The prospects of saving the steamer are bad.
