BOROUGH COUNCILS.

WOOLSTON. Tho Woolston Borough' Council met last night; present-The Mayor (Mr J. J. Graham) and Councillors D. M'Rae, A Mountford, W. Fuller, F. Newton, T. Radcliffe, L. Hart, Richardson and M. Dalziel. The financial statement showed a debit balance of £152 0s 4d. The receipts since last meeting were £b/U lis 4d. Accounts amounting to £IBO 2s 2d were passed for payment. On the recommendation of the Finance Committee, it was decided to make a donation of £3 3s to the Huntly Disaster Fund. The Baths Committee recommended that the baths should be filled on October 22, and that the opening of the season should take place on October 24. The recommendation was approved. The Electricity Committee reported recommending the Council to grant permission to the City Council to erect poles on Ensor's Road, and to agree to pay the annual charge of Is per pole for use of poles when required by the Council. The report was adopted. The Christchurch Tramway Board wrote forwarding £o towards the improvement of tho Woolston Recreation Grounds. LYTTELTON. The Lyttelton Borough Council met last night; present—the Mayor (Mr J. R. Webb) and Councillors W. Radcliffe, J. T. Norton, W. T. Foster, M. J. Miller, F. J. Page, J. H. Collins, F. T. Walklin, A. C. Schumacher and J. Guthrie.

A vote of condolenco was passed with tho relatives of those who had gone down in the steamer Kairaki. In connection with the Huntly Relief Fund it was decided to request citizens to forward their donations to the Mayor. A letter was received from Scoutmaster F. Benjamin, on behalf of the Lyttelton Boy Scouts, asking permission to hold week-end camps at Diamond Harbour. Several councillors thought that the Scouts should be carried free in the launch, but after some discussion it was decided to allow tho lads to travel at half rates. The Estates Committee reported in tho matter of Kayo and Carter's intention to discontinue their lease at the end of tho present term, and recommended that they be asked if they would bo prepared to continue the lease untij such time as the Railway Department took steps to alter the siding or take over the property. The committee recommended that the Railway Department should be asked if it could state definitely when it would require the land at Officers' Point so that the Council could be enabled to make arrangements with its tenants. The Mayor stated that he had discussed tho matter with the railway authorities quite recently and it was possible that the suggested alterations to the railway yard at Lyttelton would take in a portion of the properties referred to. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee recommended that tho sum_ of £6 6s should be paid to the architect for preparing plans and specifications of six week-end cottages for Diamond Harbour.
