News has boon received at Dunedin of tho death of tho Rev 0. H. Bradbury, tho Congregational minister, formerly of Christchurch, "Wellington and Dunedin. Ho had charge of tho Milton Congregational Church, Briebane, but died at Melbourne. Tho-death'is reported from Dunedin of Mr James Noil, herbalist, in _ his seventy-first yoar. Deceased arrived in Otago from Victoria in 1860, and was at the. Gabriel's Gully rush, subsequently going to tho Dunstan, Shotover and "West Coast goldfiolds. Having served the town of Palmcrston North for seven years as Mayor, Mr J. Nash has been asked to go up higher. An influential deputation has waited on him with the request that he become a candidate for tho Palmerston seat at the general election of members of the House this year. Information was received yesterday by tho local secretary of tho Associated Board of tho Royal Academy of Music that Miss Audrey Theodora Gibson has been elected to an Exhibition Scholarship in pianoforte at tho Royal' Academy of Music, London. These scholarships, which entitle the holder to free musical tuition at the Royal Academy of Music or the Royal College of Music for not loss than two years, are awarded, on tho recommendation of the ox nminors. to the candidates showing exceptional musical promise. Tho award to Miss Gibson is the result of her examination by Mr F. do G. English last year. Miss Gibson is a pupil of Mr H. M. Lund. It is believed that this is tho first time that an Exhibition scholarship has come to Christchurch.

Two well-known . shipmasters—Captain G. C. Best and Captain G. R. Greemvood—-liavo diod in Auckland within tho past few days. , Capta' Best, who was soventy-threa years ol age, came to New Zealand,in the 'sixties ns chief officer of the ship Ida Zeiglor, and was at different times harbourmaster at Thames, Tauranga, and Russell. Captain Greenwood was best known as master and owner of the barque Devonport, trading between Auckland, Ivaipara and Australian ports. Some years afterwards he purchased the barque Asia, which at one time belonged to the old fleet of whalers sailing out of Hobart. After trading between New Zealand and Australian ports for some .years, he sold the Asia, and purchased the four-masted barque City of Adelaide, and*with this vessel traded between Australia and the Pacific Coast.
