THE WEATHER.

The outlook was not very'bright in Christchurch this morning, on account of the fog that enshrouded tho city. Later on in the day the fog lifted, allowing the sun to shine through. The skies are still overcast in practically every place in the dominion. A. cloudy sky 'and a. light nor-'west . prevailed at" Auckland. Gloomy and misty weather was general north _of Auckland. Gisborne and Napier experienced calm conditions and overcast skies. Capo Palliser and Capo Egmont oiljored light westerly wintfs afid: bine skies. The sky was overcast at Wanganui. . Wellington reported an overcast sky and a fresh northerly breeze. Passing showers were in evidence at Westport. A light easterly was blowing at Greymoutn, and the sky was overcast. Bcaley reported a blue skv. Foggy and misty conditions wero the order at Timaru and Oamaru. Dunedin reported similar weather, accompanied by a. fresh south-east breese. Foggy weather was general at all southernmost stations. Hanmer Springs experienced a blue sky. The barometer is rising in thei North Island, but remains low in the South Island. The seas are smooth generally. Forecast for Canterbury.—Moderate to strong north and north-east winds, backing southeast and south later. Weather continue in an unsettled state. Fair to threatening.
