LATE MR ASHBY.
MARKS OF RESPECT. As a mark of respect for the late Mr E. 0. Ashby the following firms closed their warehouses yesterday afternoon and were represented at the funeral Messrs Ait-ken, Roberts and Barrett, Andersons Ltd., Archer and Halliburton, C.'ongreve and Sons, Clarke and Procter, Hastie, Bull and Pickering, JO. Iteece and Sons, Mason, Struthers Ltd., Lewis and Anderson-, and Briscoe and Co. Letters and telegrams of sympathy were received , fromJ. Al'Lcl'-an (Lysaght), Wellington; Priest and Holgate, Titriani; Brown and Stowa't, Auckland; John Edmond, Dunedin; Mrs G. Moore, Oarnaru ; Briscoe and Co., Dunedin ; and Jos. Nathan and Co., "Wellington. The local manager of Messrs Briscoe and Co. wrote, stating that theycould riot- let the opportunity pass without expressing deep regret. at the loss the community had sustained as a whole and Ihe hardware trade in particular in (lie death of thenold and respected friend and client, Air 'ls. C. Ashby. Their firm had been connected with him for half a century and the governing directors and hoard would In! deeply grieved nf the sad news. On behalf of their board I hey wished' to express their deep sympathy. Mr AsLby had proved himself on every .occasion to he a genuine and generous bufliness man and one whn appealed to them all in a personal way as.a courteous, kindly and charitable, gentleman and a very dear friend. A large number of other messages ol n similar character were received by tne firm of which Mr Ashbv was a member. The. name of Mrs TT. Boss was omitted from the list previously published of those who scut wreaths.
