FIGHT IN A LAUNDRY A WELLINGTON CASE. [Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, March 16. More light was thrown on life in Wellington's Oriental quarter in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Edward James Curtice was charged with assaulting Florence Jane Curtice. A witness for the prosecution ivas Charlie Ah Chong, a laundryman residing in Raining Street, who said the woman h;id lived with him fqr about eighteen months. He did not know she was a married woman. On September 12 last accused called at the laundry with gome clothes. Florence Curtice' came into the shop, whereupon the accused caught hold of her and threatened to kjll her. Curtice took a revolver out of his pocket, but his wife dodged his aim. Subsequently witness, who went for the police, heard a revolver shot, and later found a shot embedded in the door. Detective-Sergeant Cassels said that accused had. left Wellington after the incident, and it was only recently that ho had beeii traced and arrested in Auckland; He told witness that when ho presented the revolver he did not know it- was loaded. Since then the woman had left the Chinaman and rejoined her husband, with whom sho. was now living. His Worship said there was no doubt the accused had had great provocation, and in. the circumstances he would be only lightly penalised. A fine of 10s was inflicted, with costs.
