BOUT ON THE WHARF.
' WONDER THE CAMERA DIDN'T BREAK/. [Per Pkess Association ] AUCKLAND, March 16. Quarrels between Arbitrationists and Federationists are of almost daily occurrence in the city, and men are constantly appearing in tho Courts charged with breaches of the peace. Two cases were ventilated in the Police Court to-day. In one case Thomas Bates, an eR-st'rilcpr, was charged with assault. It appeared that he met a man named Hargreaves, an tionist, and allowed Hargreaves to see a photograph of the Strike Committee in which ho (Bates) figured. Hargreaves remarked disparagingly tlijit it was a wonder the camera didn't break. Bates was so angry that he struck Hargreaves, and tho latter promptly reblackened Bates's eye, knocked him down and Bat on him until a constable came and took him to the lock-up. Bates complained ' that tho witness who supported Hargreares's statement was biassed against the old waterside workers, who were victimised men and were uot allowed to live, he complained. Tho Magistrate sentenced Bates to seven days' imprisonment. In the other case an ex-wafcersider was found guilty of using obscene language and watt iined £2.
