MEETING OF BUKUUi.it <.»«.». [FROM OtR CORRESrONDEKT.J The fortnightly meeting, of tho New Brigliton Borough Council was held on Monday evening; present,—the Mayor (Mr ('. If. Winny), and Councillors J. Ainger, G. W. Staniland, F. Kibblewhitc, 0. liergh, A. W. Owl OS, C. leraelson, .7. Asliby and C. Withcll. The Heathcote Council wrote, accopting tho Borough Council's offer to meet one-third of the cost of repairs and maintenance of the Bower Bridge. Mr C. J. Marshall wrote, accepting his appointment by tho Council as returning officer for tho borough. The Finance, Committee reported receipts, district fund, for the fortnight ended March 13, £433 19s; expenditure, £238 10s 4d; deposits, £1694 3s fid ; credit balance at bank, £4 Ts lOd. Accounts were recommended lor payment amounting to £lO3 10s ou district fund. Accounts wero also rccomJnended for payment on No. 2 loan account, amounting to £2 2s. The report was approved and adopted. Jubilee Avonue.—lt was reported that Mr Garland had completed his contract for metal, about 140yd.s oi scoria having been delivered at Jubilee Avenuo and 20yds deposited on Park Road, Osborne Terrace and Palmer's Road where required. It was resolved tliat the forot-inn should be asked to prepare a .schedule showing the cost of all works completed, and included in estimates, same to bo submitted to the Finance Committee for endorsement.

Tho committee endorsed tho action of the Mayor in accepting Mr .Lester's offer to complete the sports grounds for the sum of £BO, and agreed to tho expenditure of £2O to provide an artesian well for the grounds. The oxpenditure would take place from the Government grant of £IOO for this purpose. It was resolved that two additional notice boards be obtained in regard to driving on the beach and. cricket playing, etc., near the pier. The report was approved and adopted.

Councillor Owles reported that Mr C, J. Ager, the lessee of the pier, had some intention of further improving .the pier during the winter months, ...provided the Council agreed. Mr Ager had intimated his intention to be iu New Brighton on Thursday next, March 19, and would be glad to meet the Council to discuss the whole question of improvements, hot sea water batlis, etc. It was decided that as many of the Council as possible meet Mr Acer on Thursday afternoon at four o clock to confer. Councillor Kibblewhite drew attention to the condition of the footpath on the esplanade in the vicinity of Hood Street, and the necessity for protecting the clay round the surf club pavilion. Referred to.Works Committee. At the conclusion of the Council's ordinary business, Councillor Kibblewhite moved a resolution of thanks and appreciation to the. Mayor for the splendid manner in which he had conducted the business of the borough during the past year, and on behalf of the Councillors requested that lie allow himself , to be nominated for a second term Of office. Councillor Owles seconded the resolution, which was carried without dissent.
