WHY THE DELAY?

NO CROWN PROSECUTOR. BAR BECOMING IMPATIENT. MANY NAMES MENTIONED. In the first few days of February Christchurch lost its Crown Prosecutor,' when Mr T. AV. Stringer, K;C; became his Honor Mr Justice Stringer, and although the office, he held has been vacant for over a month,, no appointment has as yet been made by the Government. ,It is stated that the delay is being commented on among the Christchurch barristers. Considerable interest has been taken in the prospective appointment,' and there have been many rumours circulated as to those who are*most likely to receive the honour at the hands of the Justice .Department. So far nothing that could give any idea of definite action ha.s been made known, and the local lawyers are busily engaged in "pricking the card." Amongst those who are mentioned in various quarters as being "in the running" for the honourable position are:— > Mr F. C. Wilding, K.C. Mr S. G. Raymond, K.C. Mr H. J. Beswick. Mr J. J. Dougall. Mr H. ». Acland. Mr 0.-. T. J. Alpers. The"'-uncertainty of the position'has lent a considerable interest to the situation, but it has been urged that Christchurch should' be permitted to know quickly who the next Crown Prosecutor is to be.
