The thirty-fifth annual report and balance-sheet of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union, to be presented to delegates at the' annual general meeting on Friday next, states that, for the second year in succession, the balancesheet showed a loss on the year's working. The- deficit was caused last year by the unusually heavy expenses connected with outside matches. Commencing the year with a credit balance of £32, it was found necessary, in order to meet liabilities, to withdraw from the bank the sum of £IOO, which had been on fixed deposit for some years past. As the credit balance at the end of the year amounted to only £47, it would be seen that the loss on the year's working amounted to about £BS. Considerably more than this

amount had been expended on outside matches beyond the annual fixtures, the tour or the team through tire West Coast costing the Union over £72, while the visits of teams to the several Sub-Union districts and the sending of a team to Waiau cost over £SO. A donation of £lO had been made to the Ashburton Sub-Union, and a similar sum had been voted towards the maintenance of the Linwopd Park. These special and non-recurring items totalled £142. It was pleasing to note that the public interest in the club matches had been well sustained, the gate takings for those and the trial games amounting to £373, as against £326 taken in 1912, while the attendances at the various inter-union and other outside matches had been very satisfactory. The representatives of the Board of Control of Lancaster Park, continues the report, had given close attention, to the interests of the Union, and had attended regularly the meetings of the Board. Whilst raaiw improvements had already been carried' out, much still remained to be.done in the matter of providing additional seating accommodation foi; the general public and improving the south grounds. The training hall which had been erected at Lancaster Park last season had proved a source of great convenience to the members of the various clubs. The receipts for the year had amounted to £1619 17s Id. and the expenditure to £1572 4s 7d, which left a credit balance of £47 12s 6d. The insurance fund showed receipts amount<ing to £lO3 14s. Id and expenditure £49 lis 6d, leaving a credit balanco of £54 2s 74.
