SOMEWHAT MIXED.

A CASE OVER A CLOCK. , ALSO AN OBVIOUS PUN. The matrimonial entanglements of a lady called Frost caused great amusement in the Magistrate Court to-day. She was sued by a male plaintiff for recovery of a cuckoo clock which, it was alleged, she had unlawfully detained. She explained that she had been engaged to be married to the plaintiff, and that the clock was one of the gifts of his courtship clays. Since then the engagement came to an end, the plaintiff having broken his promise, and now dhe was married to another man. The defendant was sued under, the name of Bloom, but she stated that her name had been Frost before her marriage, and, apparently, after. Ihe Bench .recoiled from the task of disentangling these matrimonial knots, and they were still unsolved when she left the Court, all the juggling with the names of Bloom and Frost on the part of lawyers being without avail. " I will not take advantage of the opportunity to make the obvious pun," remarked Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., amid laughter, alluding to the fact that the bloom of courtship and love had been nipped by the frost of disillusionment. It was stated that the defendant had returned other gifts, all but the clock. ,( Well," said Mr Bishop. " The defendant says that he has had all he wants from you except the clock. Why not give him that and make an end of the matter?" "No, I want to keep it," said the defendant. The case was adjourned till Thursday next, to give an opportunity for a settlement to be,effe<;ted.
