ACROSS THE TASMAN.
WATERSIDERS' REQUEST AND PREMIER'S REPLY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received November 17, 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, November 17. The New South Wales branch of the Labour Federation of Australasia forwarded a resolution to Mr Cook, the Federal Premier, asking that the Federal Government should prevent ships from New Zealand coming to Australia, as this might involve the peaceful relations in industrial affairs of the Commonwealth, especially in view of the fact that the employers of New Zealand are attempting to load vessels with blacklegs. Mr Cook replied that he wouH be glad to learn what steps the Federation suggests to prevent an upheaval if the Federation's letter means that the Government should take steps to stop or impede ordinary commercial intercourse between New Zealand and the Commonwealth. The suggestion is one which, even if the Government possessed requisite power, could not be entertained.
