STEADY WORKHOTELS STILL CLOSED. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 15. Work is proceeding steadily on the waterfront this morning. The Magistrates decided to extend the order for the closing of hotels indefinitely. There are now 160 employed on Exhibition contracts, and it is expected that a great number mil resume on Monday. WITH GELIGNITE. THE CASE OP DOYLE. WAS GOING TO DEFEND HIMSELF. [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 15. "William Thomas Doyle was charged at the Police Court with having in his possession gelignite with intent to commit a crime. The detective who arrested Doyle gave evidence that the accused stated that he was going to use the gelignite to defend himself against special police. He said that many other strikers had similar cartridges, and he added: "If it had come to the point, I don't think I could have used them." Accused reserved his defence, and was committed for trial. STREET INCIDENT. PICKETS AND SP-JIALS. The announcement that a large number of aerated water carters were returning to work to-day drew a party of special police and a fairly large number of strikers to Stanley Street. Tho pickets insisted on their right to pass the line of specials, and were permitted to continue their work peacefully. ~ .- ■ ■■_ CONFLICTING. STATEMENTS THAT DIFFER. [Per Press Association] AUCKLAND November 15. It is estimated tha. the number of men on strike, including seamen and firemen, is about 7000. Of these about 1000 have resumed work, including four hundred of the City Council employees, three hundred hotel and restaurant employees, 165 exhibition workers and a number of carpenters, drivers and general labourers. The employers report a general anxiety of the men to resume work. The strike leaders deny that there is any sign of weakening.
