WEATHER OUTLOOK.
HEATY RAIN PREDICTED. The strong northerlies of the past day or two have lent a pessimistic tone to the closing days of Carnival "Week, and this morning a light drizzle added to the disquietude. Otago and South Canterbury also , reported unsettled conditions and rain fell at Oamaru and Duuedin. The outlook in Southland, too, was very gloomy. Blue skies were general throughout Westland, but in Neleon_ overcast skies and rain were experienced. The weather throughout the North Island was far from being enviable, and at Warfgamii only was a'clear sky in evidence. The' barometer has fallen slightly at all: stations ' except Christchurch, and here a rise has taken place. The winds throughout the dominion •were moderate to strong and were mostly from north to east. All the coastal stations reported moderate to smooth seas. The following is the Government meteorologist's forecast: are for freshening strong to gale, northerly winds and backing by E.'to S. after about thirty-six hour's. Expect dull weather with much mist and fog in parts. Heavy rain is to be expected with rivers rising, shortly. Barometer falling, but rise after .about thirty-six \b forty-eight, hours."
