POLITICAL NOTES.
[From Our Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, November 12 CIVIL SERVICE ' SAILORS.
When the Government steamer Hinemoa, was called on for mail carrying during a strike emergency, last week, the crew refused duty. Steps have now been taken by the Marine department to guard against trouble of that sort in the future. The Minister of Marine 6tated in the House yesterday that no control of the crews of the Government steamers would be allowed except by the Government. Ho had arranged that the Ilinomoa's crew should become permanent officers of the Marine Department, giving them the usual Civil Service privileges, such m regular leave and superannuation. A crow had been obtianed for the vessel, an dafter this was done, the old crew wanted to come back, but their offer was declined with thanks. THE SECOND BALLOT. The much threatened Second Ballot Repeal Bill has not yet got through its introductory .stage. It-was put aside yesterday, but is expected to turn up on Friday, as the Government will not be so badly prejudiced by a stonewall if it is carried on throughout the weekend.
