THE WEATHER.

Fine weather -was general throughout Sopth Canterbury, , Otago and Southland this morning, and locally. Although the 6ky was cloudy, pleasant weather was experienced. In North Canterbury and Weetland rain fell, and in Nelson gloomy conditions were in evidence. . Considerable improvement was reported throughout the North Island,- and from Cape Palliser only was rain reported. Southerly to westerly winds predominated, and, in most cases moderate to Strong was reported.. ; The barometer, although still low at most stations, has. a rising tendency. Moderate seas were reported from all coastal stations, except Cape Palliser, where a heavy swell was in evidence. The following is the Government Meteorologist's forecast : " Southeasterly to strong winds and veering by E.' to N. after about, 24 hours, then freshening. Hie weather is improving and will probably become warmer, but pi unfavourable change in the weather is predicted for the end of the week. The . barometer shows little movement, but will, probably fall after about 24 hours."
