"FOREIGNERS."
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is probable that the denouncement of the Labour leaders by the Prime Minister as foreigners, will cause about fifty per cent of the people of . these islands to feel a sense of inferiority, because his remarks seem to" have application to anyone who has been so unfortunate as to have been' born elsewhere than in New Zealand. It will be very humiliating to Lord Liverpool, Mr Hiley (general manager New Zealand Railways), General Godlev, Commissioner Ciillen and many other high-paid foreigners to be reminded of the fact that they are foreigners. If Mr Massey should realise his wish for a Parliament of New Zealanders there would be a change in the personnel of 80 per cent of the House. It must be discomforting to New Zealanders' to realise how subject to foreign domination they have been, seeing that almost without exception the principal officers of the State navei been foreigners hitherto, as for ' instance, Mr B. J. Seddon, Mr J. Ballance. Sir J. G. Ward and others.' But Mr Massey fias some regard for foreigners, -since he has been party to their engagement and retention in high paid State offices and numerous official positions, such as instructors and officers in the Defence Department, which positions he did not deem New Zealanders intelligent enough to fill. It is only when the foreigner is an elected leader of working men that Mr Massey objects to the foreigner, and he is similarly averse to the New Zealander occupying the same position. —I am, etc., A FOREIGNER FROM ENGLAND.
