NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIA- . • TION. The Board of Management of the New Zealer.d Trotting Association met-last- evening; present—Messrs T. Selig. (chairman). W. E. Sitaes, C. S. Howell, A. L. Myera, J. H. Pollock -and W. H. Denton. ' The ' New South Wales Trotting Club wrote, stating that-it liad written to - Uie Western Australian Trotting Association, stating' that if a certain clause in its programme referring to possible reductions 01 prize-money was deleted tho cluo woud prepared to reconsider the question 01 a reciprocal arrangement. _ _ , __ 'The chairman said that while in Syaney hc ii'id expressed the opinion ihat the clause should be "deleted. The clubs should be prepared to stick to tho programme as puclished. Recently he-had feen Mr nan, the foundation president 'cf the Western Australian Association, who had stated tha* the clause had been adopted at the unanimous wish oi the owners, but had since been withdrawn. The Association had had a hard fight against proprietary interests. While in Sydney he had been informed tiiat tho Now South Wales Club did not w-.sn the New Zealand Association to disqualuy horses that lia-d competed in the Commonwealth States and at proprietary meetings at proaent. Such a procedure would, it had ■ been said, be a hardship on some -coiintry clubs. Ho had suggested to Mr_ Brennan that in tho Commonwealth, where it was desirable to encourage -dmai-cur clubs, the position of trotting in New Zealand under the dominion's legisift'tioii should bo niiid© cle&r to the Victorian Government. There had been a proposal for a conference between tho governing bodies in Australia and New Z*»iand, but he thought that before that was done it would be necessary to draw up a definite programmo for a conference. A vote, of thanks was accorded the chairman for tho work he had done in Australia iind to Messrs Moriarty and Hungerford, of the New South Wales Trotting Club. • In reply to a request by the -Marlborough Trotting Club for permission of tho Association to postpone it 3 meeting this month, on . account .of tho strike, it was doeided to grant the permission, but to add that, the club would have to take all responsibilities with regard to the owners of the horses nominated. It was decided to grant an extonsion of time to the special sub-committee appointed to go into the question of starting. The License Committee recommended that tho license cf E. J. Dwyer should be granted with a caution, that tho applications of M.' Ryan, Robert Jopp and Si M'Ca.cn.

should bo refused, and that tin.© license of E. Crotty should be cancelled. ; The recommendations were adopted. OWEES' AND BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION. -5 . A special meeting of the Canterbury Owners' ana Breeders' Association was heldlasi night, Mr R. J. Munro presiding. , In reply to the Association's protest against the Stallion Bill, ( the Prime Minister wrote ; stating. that the Bill was not likely to be proceeded with this year. ; The Forbury Pr.rk Trotting Club wrote stating that the Railway Department would provide-'a special train to leave Dunedin on November 29, at 8.50 p.m., provided a guarantee of sis TJ.G. waggons, for twenty-four horses, oould be guaranteed for stationr north of Timaru. • It was decided to replj that the Association could not give a guarantee until the acceptances, showed that' sufficient horses would be going. The Oamsru Trotting "Club wrote forwarding a cheque for £2 2s for the general funds of the Association, and acknowledging the" As- . sociation's action regarding train • arrangements for the recent Oamaru. meeting-. The .letter .stated that there :-was a likelihood of securing members of the Association is Oamaru. The secretary (Mr C. :W. HerroyJ stated that he had forwarded a number a forms to Oamaru. . As the . result .of correspondence with. th» Northern Owners' and Breeders' Association Auckland, it was agreed to amalgamate th< Canterbury, and Northern Associations, .with headquarters at Chri-jtcliurch, on the understanding that each body should control its own finances. The chairman said that he had had brought under his notice the case of a member of the Association who had been badly treated ia the matter of a horse brought, to him io train. ' It was then in very bad condition, and he had agreed to train it for £1 a week. Subsequently lie. had found a purchaser fat it, but'he had not been'able to obtain .fees, rnnnin,? to about .-£2O, which were owing to him. It had bees suggested that the Association should take tie matter" before the Trotting- Association in default of payment. It was agreed to act on the suggestion. Mr J. P.. Charlton, patron of the Association. who was a-slted to explain the provisions of the Stallion Bill, said that the Bill was not likslv to become lav/ but thero w*r one great objection to it, namely, that it e» eluded thoroughbreds. . There were 'as manj " scrubbers among; thoroughbreds as among drßught horses and otihers, and what wsa sauce for the trotting horse was sauce far the thoroughbred. He suggested that th Association chruld sat up a committee tt draft an approved Stallion Bill. Mr Charlton was thanked for his attendance, and agreed to attend a special meeting of.the committee to consider the matter. After the Avon "Welter Handicap at the Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting yesterdaj A. Oliver, the rider of Boval Arms, was/suspsnded for the remainder of the day for misbehaviour at the starting post. V*' The committee of the Marlborough Kaciot Club met, in Blenheim yesterday/ njornipa The prospects of the Club's meeting were discussed and it was .decided to hold it on the original days, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Boats are expected to leave Wellington for Picton on Saturday and Monday. Acceptances for the first day will close to-night, and fees, will be refunded if horses are prevented from attending tha meeting on account of the strike.
