Mr F. C. Spratt, LL.B., was this morning, on tho motion of Mr J, A. Flesher, admitted by Mr Justice Denniston as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court. The Hon W. F. Massey, Prime Minister, ■will arrive in Christchurch on Friday morning, to attend the citizens' ball and other functions in connection with the New Zealand's visit.

A telegram from Hastings says that Mr James Garnet, the Mayor of that town, died there last night at the age of fifty-seven years. He had undergone an operation for appendicitis three weeks ago. He was a member of a number of local bodies and was elected Mayor in 1911 and returned unopposed for two successive terms. He leaves a widow and five sons.
