DOMAINS FETE.

• MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE The executive committee of the Domain fete met yesterday afternoon : present—Messrs W. H. Cooper (chairman), J. J. Collins, E. Nordon, F. C. B. Bishop, J. F. Grierson, G. Harper, J. R. Evans and Captain M'Gee and E. J. Righton (secretary). The chairman, as convener of the Collecting Committee, reported that to date the committee liad raised about £35, and several substantial promises had been received. ,

" Mr Grierson reported that, the wool brokers and the fire insurance companies had agreed to close their establishments on the afternoon of the fete. The auctioneers were going ahead with the proposal to collect produce and stock.

With .regard to the proposed motor 'railway, Messrs J. R Collins' and E. Nordon reported that the Automobile Association was very loth to lend its cars this year, owing to 1 the damage: which many of the cars had received last year. • Mr Collins suggested that the open cars whi'ch plied for hire should be engaged on a profit-sharing basis. . . After some dismission, .-during which it was stated that at least twenty cars would be necessary, and that men could be obtained to regulate the traffic, the matter was deferred. ■ Mr Grierson undertook to interview Colonel Cooper and ask for a squad of .men to regulate the traffic. - The-.secretary reported that the Canterbury Jockey Club had promised to lend chairs, and Messrs C. W. Hervey and T. Bain would supervise the guessing competitions. The Prime Minister, the Hon W, F. Massey, wrote stating that he could not attend the fete personally, but would see that the Government, was represented.

The secretary reported tliat the work in connection with tlie fete was going ahead steadily. The ladies, who did the major portion of the work, were meeting: weekly, and had matters well in hand.

It was reported that Mr R. C. Bishop had consented to take charge of the gate collection.
