WORLD'S EISTEDDFOD.

A SAN FRANCISCO PROJECT.

■■•' Preliminary arrangements are being made in San Francisco, California, for the holding, of an international eisteddfod at the' World's Fair of 1915. "The Panama Pacific International Exposition' Eisteddfod "'is the name suggested.by the organising committee of pro.minenfc Western Welshmen to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. At a meeting of the committee it was resolved to form a board of management direotors' numbering thirty-one gentlemen. Articles of „ incorporation were presented by Mr T. Rees Daniels, a former Rhondda' lawyer, who said that 50,00Q dollars woujd be. offered in prizes, among which the chief choral 'prize of 10,000 doljars.(£2ooo) would be the biggest eisteddfod prize ever offered. The eisteddfod would be worldwide in scope, and its objects would be to promote the cause of federating the Welsh people of America, who numbered 82,000 native Welsh-born, to erect monuments in America to famous Welsh characters, to endow Welsh scholarships, and to promote, establish and endow any institution of an unsectarian character for the education of Welshmen in America from the eisteddfod proceeds. Mr David S. Hughes (Bangor) recommended the Panama Pacific Eisteddfod being held under the patronage of the National Eisteddfod Association of Wales. It was resolved to incorporate with a board of directors. Offers of liberal support have been received from several parts of the United States. Mr D. Lloyd George (Chancellor of the Exchequer), the President of the United States and the Governor of California will be invited to act as respective presidents at the eisteddfod sessions.
