FOOTBALL.
ALDINGTON CLUB. A meeting, for tlio purpose of forming a League club, was held in tho Oddfellows' Hall, at Addington, last evening, Air J. M'Cnllough presiding over a large attenda'neo. Tho chairman said that, though ho had little knowledge of the laws of the League game, ho had seen by flio match lie witnessed last season that tho new gamo was superior in many ways to the Rugby game. The Addington district bad a splendid recreation reserve where, no doubt, the club would have a reasonable prospect of a playing field. As for professionalism, he failed to understand why one code paying throe shillings a day was termed non-professional, and the code that, recompensed players to ten shillings a day was teimcd a professional code. Mr A. Hooper outlined the formation of League football in and the playing laws of the game. Mr A. It Brnnsden, and the centre secretary also spolco regarding the support of tho centre and answered various questions that were asked. Mr Walter Johnston stated that as an ox-Rugby enthusiast he had witnessed tho game, and he was sure that the League codo had conio to stay. In delivering an address ori the amateur definition as had come np at tlio Swimming Council on the previous evening, he assured members that so long as they abided by the status decided on, then they were recognised as an amateur body. As an ex-president of the old Addington Club, and a referee for some yea,rs, ho was pleased to find that the district wa.s advancing, and his support would be given to the club, which ho wished every success. It was decided that a club should be formed. Messrs J. Stevens, JTnnn n, Foulgar, Hardinghnm, Hutchinson, Murray, Fuller. Kingsland, "Watt, Pearoe, Foster, Rix, and Olliver were elected a committee to arrange details, with Mr J. Wardell as secretary. A vote of congratulation was accorded the Canterbury cricket tearii on its success in Auckland, and cheers were given for it.
