-fo THE KAIAPOI CLUB. The Kaiapoi Cycling Club's fifteenmile road race, which was held on Thursday evening, added further,to the list of successful events promoted by the club. The course was from the club rooms along the line road through Southbrook, Rangiora . and Woodend, finishing at the .Kaiapoi Beack Road, j Tlie race was exciting throughout, and produced an excellent finish. Tlie first seven riders finished almost in line. The scratch man. L. Wylie, was about 25sec behind. Tne places were filled as follow:—E. Morris, 45sec, 1; C. James, 45sec, 2; G. Pearce, 3inin, 3. Tlie fastest time was established by L. Wylie (scr) in the good time of 39min. The time established by Wylie is considered about equal to tlie time put up by O'Shea aud Smith over the same course, which stamps this promising young rider as one of the best men seen on the road or track for some considerable time. The other scratch man, R. A. Allan, had a tyre puncture about five miles out, CANTERBURY CYCLING AND SPORTS ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Canterbury Cycling and Sports Association was held at Kaiapoi 'on Thursday, and Mr H. C. Revell presided. Permits for road races were granted to the Kaiapoi, Waimairi and Woodend Clubs, and to the Islington Picnic Committee for an open track race. The programme for the Kaiapoi Cycling Club's sports meeting, to be held on Easter Monday, was approved of, and a permit granted. The chairman congratulated the Association on its marked progress, and said the support from tne various clubs and .competitors was such that the control of cycling in the district had been secured, and in athletics the tide was turning in the Association's favour, and everything pointed to an expansion of the Association's activities. At the next meeting, to be held at Papanui on February 6, a proposal to hold the Association's championship meeting at Kaiapoi on June 3 (King's Birthday) will be discussed. At the Islington picnic, which will be held at Kaiapoi on February 22, an open three-milo cycle handicap has been placed on the sports programme. The prizes offered are on a very liberal scale, and entries close with tlie secretary on February 10. The race will be run under the rules of the Canterbury Cycling and Sports Association. In conversation during tlie week with an active member of the Wellington Centre of Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union, he expressed tlie opinion that great dissatisfaction is felt in the North Island regarding the general management of the Union's affairs, and unless there is a marked improvement this year, a- North Island Union will lx' formed to take over the control of the sport.
