A JEALOUS HUSBAND.
FIERCE ATTACK ON HIS WIFE, ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. [Per Press Association-.] AUCKLAND, February 1. A tragic occurrence is reported from Otahuhu, a labourer, Charles Johu Mahon, aged fifty, having, it is alleged, attacked his wife while she was in bed, striking her on the head with a hammer and inflicting serious wounds. Mrs Mahon states that in consequence oilier husband having made 'an unjust allegation regarding hor familiarity with a young man, she left him and stayed some time with her mother at Takapuna. Sho returned home yesterday. Her husband received her kindly, but during the night he got up and dressed, went outside, and returned and struck her with the hammer. She became unconscious, and when she recovered saw that the shoots were covered with blood. iSlio heard her husband say, " Oh, Eva." Her husband ran out of tho house, and lie was found later in a very serious condition, having drank Ivsol. Restorative measures were employed by the doctor, but the man is not expected to recover.
