ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
INQUEST.
An inquest was held at the Hospital last night, before;Mr T. A. Bailer, district coroner, touching the death of William Evans, who was transferred to the Hospital from Lyttelton gaol on December 2, 181-2, and died in that institution on Wednesday night at seven o'clock.
Dr F. L. Scott, medical .superintendent of the Christ-church Hospital, stated that the deceased was suffering from Pott's disease of the spine when admitted. He sank gradually .and died on the previous night at seven o'clock. Death was due to toxajma following on tuberculous disease of the spine.
Thomas R. Pointon, gaoler stationed at Lyttelton, gave, evidence that tho deceased was a prisoner serving a sentence of live years' hard labour. He had been declared a habitual criminal ou February (3 oi last year, when he was found guilty of breaking, entering and theft. He had been ailing for some considerable time, and had received the attention of the prison surgeon. On December 2, 1912 3 he was removed to the Christchurch Hospital. He had been in the Hospital for two months earlier in the year.
The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the eviden^.
