LIQUOE IN A NO-LICENSE DISTRICT. NOMINAL PENALTY INFLICTED. [Fhom Our Correspondent.] DUNEDIN, January 30. To-day at Kaitangata, before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., William Henaghan was charged with bringing liquor into a no-license district without notifying the person from whom he purchased it that it was intended to be taken into a no-license district. The case for the prosecution was that on Christmas Day the defendant arrived at Kaitangata, and on being questioned by the local constable he admitted that his bag contained liquor. Defendant prodacea two bottles of whisky from tho bag, and stated that he had purchased them at the Grand Hotel, Dunedin, without notifying where he intended to take them. Tile defence was that Henaghan, who is a dentist, practising in Dunediii, and who visits Kaitangata periodically in. the practice of his profession, has occasion to use alcoholic stimulants to revive his patients if the heart action is weakened as a result of local antesthetics. Counsel submitted that under the circumstances only a nominal penalty should be inflicted.

I'lie Magistrate took this view, and imposed a fine of 10s with costs 7s, explaining that the defendant would not nave been liable had he not purchased the liquor For tho specific purpose of taking it into a no-licenso district.
