THE LOWE COMET.
STATEMENT RECEIVED BY THE GOVERNMENT ASTRONOMER. [Per Press Association-.] WELLINGTON, January 30. The Government astronomer has received from Mr Charles J. Westland a statement of elements of the comet Lowe, calculated from observations taken at Melbourne on December 30, ■January 2 and January 5. These show that the comet has a retrograde motion, and that it will reach its perihelion on February 6. Mr Westlaud supplies the following search ephemeris: January 30, right ascension 20 hours 40 minutes, south declination 28 degrees 44 minutes; February 3, right ascension 22 hours 37 minutes, south declination 20 degrees 23 minutes; February 7, right ascension 22 hours 31 minutes, south declination 24 degrees 11 minutes. This will help observers to find the comet, which has not been seen in Wellmgiou uttiavourrJA* 'weather.
