A cablegram on December 18 to the Sydney "S1111" shows that the late i Turkish Cabinet believed that a coup d'etat would be attempted, lho message says:—During tho last forty-eight hours the Government at Cc'istautinoplo lins shown a great deal ot apprehension that a coup d'etat would be attempted. The guards, at the Porte and Government offices were doubled, and the street patrols strengthened. lho movement seems to have been of a military rather than a political character. The only arrests made have been these of some members of tho general strut. Thoy. are accused of holding a mooting to organise a military demonstration in favour of a resumption of the war.
