MAN FIRED AT WITH A REVOLVER. ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT. [Per Press Association.] LEVIN, January 23. . At tho Lovin Police Court to-day, John Horror Whcllan appeared charged with shooting at John Wilkinson with intent to do bodily harm. Tho police statement showed that the charges aroso out of domestic infelicity. Wilkinson arrived at Levin on Monday night ostensibly to see the agricultural and pastoral show on the Wednesday. Wliollan tracked him to his (Whellan's) house and found him in a bedroom. Wilkinson ran out, and Whellan fired twice sit him with a revolver, but did not hit him. Whellan's counsel submitted that Whellan had no intention to do nioro than frighten Wilkinson, over whom he had had previous marital disagreements. ' , Interrogated by the Bench, Wilkinson said lie had no fear of Whellaa repeating the offence.Mr Blenkhori!, counsel for Whdlau, submitted that his client was in the worse physical condition of tho two. It was obvious ho had no intent to do actus! harm, and it was £ho false outcry by Wilkinson flint* ho- had been shot that nr.d caused Whcilan mental distress and liad caused liini to alarm the'neighbourliood. • . *-

Detective Lewis, who appeared for the police, objected to the proposal to have accused admitted to bail purely on his own recognisances, but tho Bonch, Messrs Gardener and Itemington, Justices of tho Pence, eventually took this coarse, it being pointed -out that accused, a comparatively recent arrival at Levin, might 'have difficulty in obtaining outside bail. The' cusp was remanded to February 3 on "Whellan's own recognisance of £y(). conditional on reporting himeelf dai!v to the nolice.
