SCHOOL CADETS.

EI)UCATION DEPARTMENT'S CIRCULAR, A circular issued by the Education Department on tho question of military drill in schools was read at the meeting of tho Education Board this morning. It stated that all arrangements for military drill in public schools terminated on December 31 last. Under section 6 of the Education Amendment Act, 1912, arrangements could be mado for military drill 'in the schools where tho services of an approved instructor wero available. " For the present,i' tho circular read, " a public school in connection with which there is a fullyequipped company or detachment in charge of someone holding under tho regulations in forco last year an appointment as an officer of Junior Cadots may bo regarded as a school in which military drill may bo given to boys between the ages of twelve and fourteen years. The section provides that military drill so given shall be subject to inspection, at such convenient times as may be arranged ,with the Education Board, by an officer appointed by tho Commandant of the Defence Forces. . . . As military drill in publio schools will henceforth bo carried out. in accordance with regulations under the Education Act, officers' uniforms may not be worn by those in charge of such drill unless they are officers in tho Territorials or in the Senior Cadots. Tho Defence Department, recognising that many" teachers are interested in military drill will, it is understood, make every effort to provide for thoso teachers who may wash to join either the Territorials or tho Senior Cadets." The circular was referred to a committee.
