HOCKEY.

The Saturday competitions were resumed after a spell of three weeks. Sydenham A and Addington are leading by two points for the senior competition. FIRST GRADE.

Sydenham A defeated Christchurch A at Sydenham by seven goals, scored by H. Jacobs (o), W. Patrick (2), Jones and Throp, to one, scored by 0. Anderson. Mr H. Bluett was referee. Addington defeated St: Albans at tho Polo Ground by three goalsj scored by Chappcll, Towns and D. Smith, to one, scored by S. Smith. Mr A. Gardiner was referee. Sydenham B defeated, the C team on the home ground by seven goals to nil. Grammar (2), Fitzsimmons (2), Lamotti, Hutchings and Hawkins scored for Sydenham B. Mr A. James was referee. Bible Class defeated Christchurch B at the Polo Ground by five goals, scored by Brown (4) and Napier, to two, scored by Newton and Wilson. Mr A. Tait was referee. SECOND GRADE. St. Luke's defeated Bible Class by two goals, scored by P. Cameron, to nil. Mr G. Cameron was referee. Sydenham defaulted to Christchurch. Addington defeated St. Albans at St. Albans Park by two goals, scored by Peters, to nil. Mr N. Alpers was referee. Selwyn Street easily defeated Elgin, who were four short, at the Polo Ground by 14 goals to nil, scored by Davis (4), Bell (3), W. Down (3), Hay (2), Hocking and Turnpenny. Mr E. Boil was referee. East Belt played a drawn game with Woolston at Linwood Reserve. Newman scored for Woolston, and Green for East Belt. Mr E. Quinton was referee. THIRD GRADE. Sydenham defeated Selwyn Street at Addington by two goals, shot by R. Matthews, to nil. Mr T. Brown was rcfcrGG. Christchurch defeated East Belt at the Polo Ground by two goals to one. Ludbrook and Washer scored for Christchurch and Gurney for East Belt. Mr F. Turnpenny was referee. Playing at Lyttelton, St. John's defeated Addington by 5 goals to nil. For the winners, Murray (2), Wilson, Brown and Shuker scored goals. FOURTH GRADE. Cranford Street defeated Christchurch by three goals to nil. Craighead (2) and Harland (1) scored for the winners. Mr N. Francis was referee. Oxford Terrace defeated Addington at St. Albans Park by 12 goals to nil, scored bv White (5), Odell (4), Adams (2) and Drayton (1). Mr S. Hocking was referee. Selwvn Street defeated Federals at the Polo Ground bv nine goals, scored bv Morris (5), S. Woods (2), Griffiths (2). to one, scored by Goodall. Mr W. Hill was referee. LADIES' MATCHES. * Matches wero resumed to-day in warm weather. The grounds were soft but not sufficiently so to prevent good play. The Peninsula representative eleven played a Canterbury team at St Albans Park. The play was fast and interesting, and although tho home team had the better of the play they wero unable to score against the excellent defence of the visitors- Li this department Mrs Cunningham and Miss B. Mason played very well. At th» conclusion of the first spell the two teams were rearranged, and a trial game played. The two elevens _ were very evenly matched, and again no score was registered. Mr N. Strange was referee. JUNIORS. Sydenham met Rangiora at the Sydenham Park, where Rangiora won by six goals, scored by Misses R. Greig (three) and D. Purdom (three), to one goal, shot by Miss Hester. Mr D. Duffield was referee. The match Kia Ora v. Digby's A, played at tho South Park, ended in a draw, neither side scoring. Kia Ora played two short. Miss H. Jowott was referee. The Junior fixtures Hinemoa v. Digby's B and St Luke's v- Red Rovers were both postponed. In the Primary Schools' Competition, playine at Hagley Park, St Albans Girls defeated West Christchurch by two goals, shot by Ruth Young and Bessie Guy, to nil. WELLINGTON v. TARANAKI. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, AuguSfc 10. The Wellington hockey representatives to-day played their third game of the season, against Taranaki, and won easily by eight goals to two. Wellington held tho upper hand practically throughout and excelled in all departments. At the same time the local team did not play up to form, and the score should have been greater.
