Federal and State Governments over the Gov-ernor-General's residence in, Sydney has been settled. Lord Denman will remain in possession, the Federal Government paying a rental of about £4soo.yearly. Tie rental is reckoned' at the rate of 3$ per cent on the capital value, and will depend on th» area of land required. The arrangement will only be good during Lord Denman's tenure of office, after which, the residence will invert to the. Stat®. AN EARTHQUAKE., The Riverview College seismograph* yesterday, shortly before noon, recorded a great but very distant earthquake, apparently 7000 miles away. Y.W.O.A. MELBOURNE, August 10. The family of the late Mr G. Conibere, Toorak, offered to erect a building costing £15,000 for the Young Women's Christian Association as a memorial to their father. The Association's recent £25,000 campaign realised £12,500, and the offer waa accepted.
