THE AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND. MATCH AGAINST DURHAM. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. (Received August 10, 9.30 a.m) LONDON, August 9. To-day, nt Sunderland, the Australians commenced a two days' match against Durham. Gregory, Whitty, Matthews and Carkeek were omitted from the Australian team. The weather wa3 threatening, and the wicket was good; though, a bit soft. Durham won the toss, and the captain decided to bat. After four balls had been delivered rain sot in, which caused some delay. Shortly after the game was re-started rain set in once more, and it was necessary to delay play still further. At the luncheon adjournment Durham had lost one wicket for 18 runs. The resumption of the game was delayed on account :of rain. Durham had three wickets down for 35, and eight for 138, Adamson being responsible for .05. Stumps were then drawn for the day. SOUTH AFRICAN TOURMATCH AGAINST LEICESTERSHIRE. LONDON, August 9. The match between the South African team and Leicestershire was continued at Leicester to-day, and resulted in a win for the visitors by 60 runs. In their second effort the visitors made only a weak display, and the last wicket fell with the score at 73, White and Mitchell being the only batsmeu to reach double figures.
