A message from Rome says that there is an epidemic of typhoid in Sicily, owing to polluted wells. In the villages of San Giovanni and Gemini alone 1200 persons have been stricken. ACROSS THE ATLANTIC. Tho motor-launch Detroit crossed from Now York to Queenstown in 21 days 16 hours, experiencing a stormy passage. AN APPEAL. VANCOUVER, August 8. A special appeal is being made to obtain 1170 dollars, the deficit on tho cadets' tour. Captain Day telegraphs that the deficit is 1550 dollars.
