SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

'ANNUAL MEETINGS OF HOUSEHOLDERS. The following are additional returns of school committee elections: SOMERFIELD. The first meeting of householders of tho Somertield School District was very largely attended. The chair was occupied by Mr K, H. Taylor. Tho annual report showed that the .school had an average attendance of 193 for its first quarter ending December, and of itio for the quarter ending Marflh. The school was practically full, and measures to obviate overcrowding would' soon hare to be taken. The incidental account was in credit £lB li2s -kl, and the bath account in debit £B3 7s lid. Matters in connection with the purchase of an additional two acres of land for the school had now been concluded, the total expenditure being £23B'4s 2d, of which £99 10s 7d had been subscribed ■by residents. Payments for the Spreydon Coronation Memorial Swimming Bath had been completed since the end of March. Tho total cost of the bath was £427 Is lid; £lO9 4s lid remained to be found by residents. A canvass of those present reduced this ,6um by £ll. Unanimous resolutions were passed calling upon the Government to restore the old capitation grant, and calling the attention of the proper authorities to the need for fencing in the school ground and to tho injustice suffered by suburban and country schools in having to pay heavy sanitation charges Mrs Clark and Messrs 0. It. mitim, W. H. Joyce, O. W. Mtniday. W. C. Large, W. J. Spring and E. T. Martin were elected a committee, and Mr Whiting was reelected chairman, and Mr Joyce secretary. NEW BRIGHTON. The annual meeting of householders was held on Monday evening. The- following were elected a committeej—Mr 0. H. Winny (chairman), Rev H. T. Purchas, Messrs F. Ward, A. P. Hopkins, T. Falkinder,. xi. N. Hawker, T. Rides, G. W. Staniland and J. Skinner. The balance-sheet showed receipts, amounting to £94 13s 7d, expenditure £B3 los 3d, leaving a credit balance* of £lO 18s 4d. The chairman reported that the year had been successful from every point of view. On the nrgent representations of the committee, the Education Board had consented to enlarge the school, anr} so prevent tho overcrowding oi the class •rooms. The report was adopted. WOODEND. Titers was a good attendance of householders on Monday evening. Mr J Little, sen., was voted to tho chair. The annual report showed the school to be in good order. The year s average attendance was about 100. lne balance-sheet showed that the debit balance of £9 7s 3d bad been paid off, and there was a credit balance of 14s Od. The following were elected to tho committee:—Messrs J. kittle, sen. (chairman), S. Gibbs, A. McQuillan, J. Judson, T. Eder, W. H. Judson and G. Rowe. OXFORD. At the meeting of householders nt East Oxford oil Monday night tho following committee was elected Messrs H. Campbill,- J. Whyte, P. Dalley, R. B. Dalley, Hugh Smith, T. Inch and F Loffhagan. Strong remarks were made in regard to the difficulty of securing necessary improvements, and the delay in receiving money promised. AMBEIILEY. At the annual election of householders on .Monday evening Mr F. G. I.ewton occupied the chair. Strong exception was taken to the Educatiori Board's resolution that the inspector's ren-ort should not be read at •the meeting, and a motion was passed condemning the nveoiiure. During the year £23 was raised by concerts and subscriptions, and this had been spent in shingling and draining the'school ground. At the annusil meeting of the Temuba District High School on Monday evening the chairman CMr D.
