William Walloon, for a similar offence, was lined 10s, in defsfult forty-eight hours' imprisonment, avtd another hist offender was remanded for a week for medical treatment. A Broken Order.—Alfred I' redenck Gwatkin, for the first breach of a prohibition order, was fined 10s and costs, in default forty-eight hours' imprisonKuiu.\c; Cyclists .—William Smith, Douglas Cox and William Johnston, for having cvcled oil footpaths, were each fined 7s "and costs 7s.—Georgo Alfred Oakley, for a similar offence with respect to a motor-cycle on the Beach Iload, Mount Herbert, a road closed to motor traffic, was convicted and fined Is without costs. No Lights.—Patrick Picker, for having cycled an hour after sunset without a fight, was lined 10s and costs 7s. Wanderers. —John Scott Weir, for having allowed, cattle to wander, was fined ss.

Vehicles Unattended. —Norman Andrews, for having left a vehicle unattended in a public street, was fined os and costs 7s.—William Walker, for a similar oft'ence with respect to his motor-car, was convicted and discharged. Ax Indistinct Number.—Maurice Randrup was lined 10s and costs 7s for having driven a motor-car with an indistinct registered number attached. The Crossing.—John Anthony Driskell and Hcbdin C. Yates, for having motored at other than a walking pace over public street crossings, were each fined 10s nnd costs 7s.—Clifford Head, for a similar offence, was fined 2s without costs.

Adjourned.—Cases against Reginald Jagger, for having been on licensed premises after closing hours, and against George lies, for having sold liquor during closing hours, and against the same defendant for having exposed liquor for sale during closing hours, were adjourned till May 7.. Obscenk Language.— Bernard Noonan (Mr Gassidy)-appeared and pleaded not guilty to a charge of having used obscene language in tho Racecourse Hotel, Riccarton. Tho licensee of the hotel stated that accused had been in his hotel recently, „and had used tho language when witness had refused to give him "tick." Accused had been turned out earlier in the evening for quarrelling. Ho had since apologised to witness for using such language. Mr Cassidy contended that there was not sufficient evidence to prove that accused had used the language attributed to him. After evidence had been heard for the best part of an hour, a fine of 10s, with costs 355, was inflicted on tho defendant.

Failure to Maintain.-Frederick Atkins was charged with having failed to maintain his mother. A district nurse gave evidence that defendant's mother, who was looked after by a daughter, drew an old pension of 10s a 'week, which, however, was insufficient to support hor. The Magistrate ordered the defendant to pay 3s a week towards his mother's support. iNDUsritiAr, Breaches.—Edward Cowper Smith and Mrs R. A. Gadd, for having failed to eloso their shops at R p.m. on the Thursday preceding Good Friday, were eacli fined 5s and costs.

(Beforo Mr H. TT. Bishop, S.M.) Embezzlement. Ernest John Stephens appeared on a charge of having failed to account for the sum of £2O entrusted to him by Ernest Henry W.vles. Alter hearing evidence tho Magistrate inflicted a fine of £5 on the accused, and ordered him to repay the £2O, in default two months' imprisonment.

Donnelly) appeared and pleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on or iiboutApnl (>, lorged a cheque for £'2l3 on the National Hank of Now Zealand, purporting to he signed by one Walter Kield, and with bavins caused one W. A. Tribe to act on it as it it were genuine. After evidence had been heard/tlut accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Hail was allowed, accused in £2OO and two sureties of £IOO each.
