Mr F. Black, M.1.E.E., in a report to the Timaru Borough Council on electric tramways proposals, speaks favourably of the prospects of an intallation within the borough of two lines, one north to soptli, ana the other east to west, a total of six and three-quarter miles. He estimates the capital cost at £57,062, the revenue at £11,812, and expenditure :at £10,417. Unless hydro-electricity j can be had at £5 10s per unit, it would I be cheaper to use a Diesel oil engine at ! the power station.
