LIFE-SAVING COMPETITIONS

A competition was held last evening in the Municipal Tepid Baths for the Sir John Hall Life-saving Challenge Shield, which is open for competition among primary and secondary schools for boys under fifteen years of age. The Canterbury Centre of the New- Zealand Amateur ' Swimming Association conducted the competition. There were four teams competing, each consisting of four boys, and the results were as follows: West Christchurch District High School—l (A. Barr, E. Livingstone, E. Nicoll, E. Barrett). Instructor, Mr W.ynn Irwin. Average points—-Water drill 122, land drill 86, resuscitation 31} ; total 239 J. Boys' High School—2 (V. W. Russell, G. T. Chrystal, K. F. Kirk, A. J. Thomson). Instructor, Mr G. E. Billson. Average points—Water drill 1164, land drill 82resuscitation 29$ ; total 228 J. Waltham School—3 (IT. Hiddlestone, L. Poore, 0. Rowe, A. Mendeth). Instructor, Mr F. Pratt. Average points —Water drill I(M£, land drill resuscitation 22} ; total 216}. Richmond School—l (E. Yeoman, G. Hills, A. Clark. A. Large). Instructor, Mr J. E. Purchas. Average points— Water drill 111. land drill 75J, resuscitation 25J; total 212. This is the. second year in succession that tho West Christchurch District High School has won the competition.
