SHEBEENING IN ASHBURTON. At the Ash burton Magistrate's Court to-day Gideon Scott was charged "with keeping liquor for salo in an unlicensed district. Ho pleaded guilty and was fined £oo and costs. Tins was the man whose place was raided recently, but the ingenuity with which he concealed his stock, though it b a filed tho polico for a time was not completely successful, and his " plant" was unearthed from all sort«i of unpromising places in tho garden. Gideon Scott, James Scott and Margaret Scott were jointly charged with illegally keeping liquor for sale. Gideon Scott pleaded guilty, the other two defendants not guilty. Sergeant Foaliy briefly stated that on March 13 he raided Scott's premises and found a considerable quantity of flasks and bottles of whisky hidden in various parts of the garden amongst grass, cabbages and other vegetation. Gideon Scott had been previously convicted of sly-grog selling about four years ago. The charges against James and Margaret Scott wero dismissed and Gideon Scott was fined as above 6tated.
