POLITICAL SITUATION.
SIR JOSEPH WARD IN CHRIST-
CHURCH
A CONFERENCE OF MEMBERS
Sir Joseph Ward, Prime Minister, arrived in Christchurch this morning, and at ten o'clock met the South Island members of the Liberal Party and discussed with them the political situation that has arisen on account of the results of the general election. Every member of tbo party in the South Island except one was present. There were seventeen altogether, namely, Sir A. Guinness (t!rey), and Messrs H. G. Ell (Christchurch South), L. M. Isitt (Christchurch North),. T. H. Davev (Christchurch East), G. W. Russell (Avcyi), G. Laurenson (Lyttelton), G. Witty (Riccarton), W. J-. Dickie (Selwyn), T. Buxton (Temuka), T. E. Y. Seddon (Westland), R, M'Calluni (Wairau), J. Craigio (Timaru), J. Colvin (Buller), G. W. Forbes (Hurunui), J. A. Hanan (Invercargill), J. C. Thomson (Wallace) and T. K. Sidey (Duncdin South).
The conference lasted for about two hours. At its conclusion Sir Joseph, in reply to a question, said that it was of quite a private character and that there was nothing for publication in regard to it. Sir Joseph attended the cricket match at Lancaster Park this afternoon. Ho will leave for Wellington this evening. He intends, if possible, to be present at the regatta at the Bluff on New Year's Day.
