An inquiry lias been opened into tha wreck of the steamer Maeleay. Tliel evidence was to the effect that she was well found, that her compasses had been adjusted shortly before her last voyage, aud that tho night of her. wreck was black and dark. WATERLOGGED HULL, ADELAIDE, November 9. The steamer India reported striking a floating object in tho dark in th* vicinity of Recherclio Island and receive ing severe shock. Subsequently th' steamer Monarch reported sighting hull of a waterlogged vessel in tho direct lino of shipping between West and South Australia. Her identity Was not ascertained.
